How Long Can You Go?
Beforehand Preparation
Choose a song that has a longer last note of the song, such as "I Lived in Heaven" (CS 4), "Families Can Be Together Forever" (CS 188), or "We'll Bring the World His Truth" (CS 172). Sing it through conducting it as you would in front of the children, but looking in the mirror. On the last note, sustain the last note for a long time supporting the sound with a motion from your hand. I often walk from one side of the room to the other holding up my left hand.
Activity
Tell the children you are looking for how long they can hold out the last note of this song. Sing the song through. At the end of the song show with your hands and conducting that you want the children to hold out the last note of the song even longer than normal. They see it as a challenge.
Benefits of this Activity
Good for kinesthetic and musical intelligences (See Chapter Five). Great for active participation in the learning process (See Chapter One).
